Yankee Stadium Model, Circa 1973

DSCN2031.JPG

Massive plastic sculpture of America's most famous sports venue continues to take shape...

161st Street and River Avenue  Bronx, New York

Welcome to a most unusual website.  Here I will chronicle, from start to finish, the building of an exact scale model replica of Yankee Stadium as it appeared in mid 1973. Opening on April 18, 1923, and christened with a 3 run home run by none other than Babe Ruth, this first ever triple decked concrete and steel stadium was built in only 285 days. My plastic and brass replica is going to take a bit longer... Click on the tabs to the left and follow along as this challenging work of baseball art takes shape.

I love how they worked out the layout for this particular tower, 4 rows of 31, 5 rows of 29 and 1 row of 1

My ticket stub from the last game in Babe Ruth's Yankee Stadium

As most everybody knows by now, America's most famous sports arena, Yankee Stadium, has been replaced with a new structure, also called "Yankee Stadium". As one of those who were lucky enough to have been in "the old stadium", I'm not going to let this famous building disappear forever from the face of the earth without a fitting tribute. This model will be built so that those who were not as fortunate as I will be able to get a realistic look at this magnificent sports palace in all it's glory. No significant feature will be omitted, allowing for the real feel and ambiance of the old stadium to come through. Flags, windows, monuments, speakers, bat racks, gates, railings, bullpens etc., etc. will all be here. Can't say when this will be finished, but hopefully sometime in 2011...Enjoy.
